How to find bliss once you have moved

Staying healthy and happy through a move.

If you have moved a lot, you know that it is never really easy. Moving can be a challenge, but trying to stay healthy and happy once you get to your new home is a challenge in itself. One you can overcome with a few very simple tricks.

Make the move as easy as possible

If you get to your new location as a total basket case, it will be even harder to find your bliss once you arrive. To make your cross country move as easy as possible, consider hiring professional movers. Check out companies that have been in business for a long time. Figure out which will take the most stress off of you. While you are surfing the web for movers, check out things in your new community that you already love about your old one. Make a list of restaurants you can go to, activities you can join, and places to go to. A lot of our stress is caused by being unsure about new situations. Do your research before you move to limit your uncertainty.

Once you get to your new place, start working towards your bliss goal

Take some action, even if it is tiny, the very first day. A very easy step you can take is to take a few moments to practise gratitude. You’ve just moved cross country, and you are beginning a new life adventure. You should be grateful for the opportunity you have been given. Gratitude helps put you in a very positive frame of mind. That positive frame of mind shows. Other people will notice, and they will respond to gratitude with joy.

Make walking your next step

Even if you can’t walk very far, get outside and meet your new community. Walking has great health benefits. Also, walking will give you a chance to explore your new world, meet new people, and improve your health. You don’t have to go on huge hikes. Fifteen minutes a day will get you some results. If you did your research before you moved and found places in your new community you wanted to see, go to them. They might be a great place to get your walking done. They are also likely to be places that people with similar interests will be. It’s a great opportunity to get the health benefits of walking while finding things and people that make you happy.

Take care of yourself

Unpacking boxes, rearranging your furniture, and just setting up your new house takes a toll on your body. You need to be aware of that and take preventative action. Start stretching daily, maybe even start a yoga practice. You don’t have to be a human pretzel or be made of silly putty to start stretching. You just have to be willing. Just like with gratitude and walking, you do not have to spend a lot of time, just a few minutes can help your aching back. You might consider searching YouTube for low impact stretching videos. Better yet, you might find a class in your new community. Like walking, a class will get you out and about and give you the opportunity to meet like-minded people in your new community.

Ultimately, if you want to be healthy and happy in your new community, you have to decide to do a few things from the first moment you get there. You have to decide to take care of your mind and body. Just as important as taking care of your mind and body is deciding to become part of your new community. Happiness and health come from being connected with people you like and doing things you enjoy.

Find those things to do and find the people you like as you get moved. Who knows, they might even offer to help you unpack.
