Research shows that your mouth will be acidic after eating and drinking. If you brush your teeth straight away then you’re brushing this acid into your enamel and gums, increasing the amount of damage it can do.

Experts now recommend you should wait 30 minutes after eating before brushing your teeth. It’s a good idea to drink plenty of water while you’re waiting as this will help to neutralise the acid.

5. Avoid snacking

Finally, you need to stop snacking. Every time you snack you’re introducing sugar to your mouth. This reacts with the bacteria in your mouth to create the acid that attacks teeth.
