About Susan McBurney

I'm from West Yorkshire and have been married to Keith for 34 years. I trained initially in Textile Design but then chose a career in education, becoming a French teacher in Primary and Middle schools. I've always had a sense of adventure and love of travel. As a student I worked on Camp America and afterwards spent several weeks travelling around the USA. In 1994, I performed a sponsored sing on or near bridges in Edinburgh, Singapore, Sydney and San Francisco, raising £4000 for Sargent Cancer Care, (now known as CLIC Sargent). I have run a monthly Folk Club in Denby Dale for over 30 years. We don't have guests, just local people who wish to contribute by singing, playing instruments or reading poems, ( usually humorous ditties). I'm officially retired, but I occasionally teach the odd day in my local Primary school. I have been known to 'lunch' with the ladies, a great opportunity to socialise and discuss the menopause.
