It’s clear that stress is something we need to work on avoiding, and it’s crucial that we create a balanced daily routine. However, stress in the workplace is something we often find hard to handle.
Dealing with stress in the workplace is something we need to work on to ensure we don’t spend half of our workday stressed out and under pressure.
Here are some tips which can help you handle and remove stress at work.
1. Organise each workday
Stress at work can be caused by lack of free time and heavy workload. If this is causing you to feel anxious, you need to work on organising each workday.
The best way to do it is to create a daily schedule and stick to it.
Plan and write down everything:
- Daily tasks
- Goals for the day
- Timeframe for each task
- Breaks and lunchtime
If you stay on the right track and follow your schedule, you’ll be less stressed out and more relaxed.

2. Choose your work friends
Not everyone we work with is a person we like spending time with. In fact, some of our work friends and colleagues might be the reason we’re feeling stressed out.

You can use your break to go for a run or put on your headphones and enjoy some music while working.

4. Sleep well
Sleep deprivation is another major issue and it influences the way we function during our day.
If you haven’t slept well and you come to work exhausted, it’s only natural that you’ll start feeling stressed out immediately.
This is because your body is:
- Struggling to keep on going
- Unable to be productive
All of this will lead to you feeling additional stress.
Make sure you get to work well rested and fresh, otherwise the stress is going to get to you.
5. Don’t work when you’re not working
Finally, many people find it hard to stop working when it’s time to go home and enjoy the rest of the day with family and friends.
We don’t mean that people continue to sit in the office. But, many people continue to actively think about their jobs, obligations, projects, and potential issues during the weekend.
If you do this, your workday is never actually over. Your brain is working 24/7 and it’s causing all of your stress.
Therefore, once the workday is over you should:
- Leave everything in the office
- Stop thinking about work
- Start doing the things you like
Remove yourself from “work mode” and switch to “relax mode”. You’ll get back to your work-self on Monday morning.
This will minimise the stress you’re feeling in and out of the workplace and help you feel better about your job.
